Customer Rating: Summary: Will be awesome Comment: I haven't seen this yet, but I am thrilled about it already. I know that race was brutal and had a brother who couldn't make it because he got ill a day before the start. Best flu he ever hafd. I must be a hell of a wanker to rate a vidy before I see it, but I just know this one will be awesome. Besides, a bunch of my mates told me it's great.

When did yachting become an extreme sport? Just before the turn of the century six men died and scores of ships didn't make it through one race; their story is related in A Race of Survival: The 1998 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. Told through interviews with survivors and experts, on-board cameras, and rescue footage, the tale of the bizarre storm that took 115 yachts and crews by surprise is documented with a strong sense of the tragedy that ensued. The race begins on a brilliantly beautiful Australian summer day, but only hours later the mayday calls started to come. Rescue units were overwhelmed by 60-knot winds and 70-foot swells that stopped nearly 70 yachts and washed dozens of crew members into the water. The bravery of the competitors and rescuers is amply captured, and the viewer will certainly see yachts and their crews in a new light. --Rob Lightner
